I’m still in the process of figuring out God’s great plan for me. At this point, having been laid off from full time teaching for over a year and not seeing many teaching opportunities opening up, I’m not sure that education as a career is even a part of God’s plan for me in the near future. However, the skills that I’ve learned in my most recent teaching course would definitely come in handy if God does make a way for me to return to teaching. I’ve made new connections and have encountered new possibilities as a result of being in this course, but I’m still waiting for God to guide me in any specific direction.
I’ve found the students in the Christian classroom to be much more focused and serious at academics, compared to students in classes I’ve taken in secular universities. There may be an age difference factoring in as well, as I’ve tended to be a few years older than my fellow students, especially when I was at a public university for my undergrad degree. However, as a trend I believe can be attributed to a sense of stewardship and responsibility, students at Christian universities tend to be more apt to helping each other succeed.
My choice to attend a God First university has enhanced my experience by allowing me the freedom to fully incorporate my spirituality with my professional and academic lives, without needing to feel pressured to be politically correct. I can just be me, and not have to worry about putting on a façade for the sake of not offending someone with different views. I can expect that my views will be treated with respect as I tend that respect to others in the program.
In terms of novel ways to incorporate God’s Word in my classroom, I’ve learned many new ways to enhance learning in the classroom, and in a Christian classroom it’s just a no-brainer to use these new technologies to expand theological learning.
